説明
Severe soil degradations in various parts of the world are attributed to excessive acidic deposition due to fertilizers, acidifying industries and over exploitation. However, in saline soils, it has positive impact on agricultural and afforestation activities. Nevertheless, acidic deposition is a complex phenomenon and depends upon prevailing meteorological conditions.
Several monitoring stations were established in India to collect samples of SO2 deposition, the main constituent of acidic deposition. In this study, the entire range of deposition data is presented for the first time and analysed. Data were collected with the help of samplers provided by Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
Results indicate that in deserts and arid zones of India, acidifying industries may be relocated to reclaim saline soil to a great extent. It would also fuel economic growth and create addition sources of sustainable food production.
