説明

The number of patients in Japan receiving hemodialysis treatment for chronic renal failure has increased to over 60, 000, and about 60% of these are socially rehabilitated. It seems likely, thesefore, that many will have the chance to travel, so that treatment in another clinic may become necessary.
In our clinic, admissions for hemodialysis have been increasing recently. Nineteen persons, 15 males and 4 females, have been treated, and the total number of times of the treatment has been 121. These patients' physical conditions as well as their dynamic statistics were analysed, and the results obtained offered clinical suggestions for this type of patient during travel. Most of these patients came from the Tokyo area, for purposes of sightseeing, coming home in the school holidays, sporting activities, the demands of work and ceremonial occasions, etc. They consisted of young patients who had been treated by hemodialysis for a fairly long period, and who were rehabilitated to social life on the whole.
Many of them, however, gained much body weight, about half of them gaining over 4kg and even 4.4kg on average in the case of hemodialysis during the night. For one case of pulmonary edema and cardiac failure due to excessive water intake, emergency hemodialysis was carried out at midnight. It is thus apparent that selfcontrol regarding water intake is a serious problem in these patients.
Letters of introduction for the patients were brought to us in all cases. Written technical details of hemodialysis as well as the cause of their renal failure are desirable. Also, telephone contact between technical staff in both clinics is useful.
