Description

The expression of the murine leukemia virus (MuLV) antigen was demonstrated in the parotid and submandibular salivary glands and exorbital lacrimal glands of NZB mice by using the indirect immunofluorescent method.
The MuLV antigen was localized within the cytoplasm of duct cells of the parotid and subman-dibular glands except for their nuclei. Interestingly, in the transitional portions, from the striated duct to the granular duct, the expression of the MuLV antigen greatly varied depending upon the individual cell states. In the lacrimal glands the MuLV antigen was restricted to the acinous cells except for the nuclei and occasionally, the nuclei of the duct cells showed positive fluorescence.
In addition viruslike particles with close resemblance to the typical C-type murine oncogenic virus particles were identified around the degenerative lymphoid cells in the complicated lymphoma by electron microscopy.
