Abstract
The purpose of this investigation has been to demonstrate the presence of direct tissue damage agents in extract of Actinomyces viscosus and A. naeslundii to cultured cell. L-cells were cultured in MEM media to which extract of the bacteria with various concentrations were added, and proliferating rate, colony formation degree and cell persistence level were observed.
Suppression of L-cell's proliferation was observed in the groups which were added ×40 and ×20 diluted extract. Decrease of colony formation degree and cell persistence level were also noted in these groups. In a group which was added ×10 diluted extract, non-proliferation, non-colony formation and non-persistence were seen.
From the above results, it was indicated that extract of Actinomyces had a possibility of damaging periodontal tissue directly by their components.
