Abstract

Background: We report the cytology of an extremely rare uterine cervical cancer showing the histological features of endometrioid adenocarcinoma, clear cell adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma.
Case: A 53-year-old woman presented with a cauliflower-like tumor at the uterine cervix. Excision biopsy revealed a tumor with the histological characteristics of endometrioid adenocarcinoma, clear cell adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Repeated cytological examinations revealed cell clusters having the characteristics of adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and clear cell adenocarcinoma. The clear cell adenocarcinoma cells had clear and abundant cytoplasm, and nuclei of various sizes with fine chromatin and prominent nucleoli.
Conclusion: Our experience suggests that careful cytological examinations are necessary to diagnose a cervical cancer with various histological cell types.
