Abstract

We report on a case of chordoid meningioma which is a rare histological variant of meningioma. A male in his 70’s with a calvarial tumor was admitted to our hospital. The tumor mass as assessed on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging was 5.0×3.0×2.5 cm. The tumor was removed. The crushed cytology showed good combination clusters, weak clusters and epithelioid cells. The tumor cells had oval or irregular nuclei, which were similar to adenocarcinoma, and a foamy cytoplasm. There were mucinous matrices at the border of the cluster. Histologically, the tumor was composed of strands, nests and lobules, surrounded by a mucinous matrix which was dyed with alcian blue at PH2. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were at least focally positive for epithelial membrane antigen.
