Abstract

Plants with high seed set were explored from the several combinations of continued backcrossing in an interspesific hybrid between cabbage (B. oleracea) and Chinese cabbage (B. campestris), which was produced by ovary culture. Isozyme analysis by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was done to decide whether the plants obtained from the backcross are true hybrids. The seed set of plants from the continued backcrossing using Chinese cabbage as the male plants was superior to that of cabbege. In the future, if the plants with available character were selected out of high seed set plants obtained from the continuous backcross, they can use as the bridge plants toward Chinese cabbage and cabbage. In isozyme analysis, esterase showed polymorphism and determined the true hybrid in the plant got by crossing a cabbage variety as the male plant.
