Description

Three groups of Japanese upland rice cultivars having the alleles of phosphoglu conate dehydrogenase (Pgd)-1^1, Pgd-1^2 and Pgd-1^3 were investigated on the relation of the numbers of vascular bundle (Vb) in the peduncle and the primary rachis branch (Rb). The Vb showed no difference in number among 3 groups, but the numbers of Rb were more in the cultivars with Pgd-1^1 than those with Pgd-1^2 and Pgd-1^3. The ratios of Vb to Rb were significantly higher in Pgd-1^2 and Pgd-1^3. It was confirmed that the variation of vascular bundle system corresponds to differentiation of Japanese upland rice.
