Abstract
Although electricity and fuel are necessary for livestock farming due to mechanization, there are few reports which investigated the quantity and the pattern of the electric power consumption at the farms. Then, in order to easily grasp the power consumption of every work and of certain periods of time in a day at the livestock farms, “visualization of electric power consumption” was experimented by writing down the types, numbers, and use frequency of machine operation as well as examining the power-saving and cost-saving. We investigated two pig farms which had different scale of operation in Kanagawa prefecture. As a result, by the “visualization of electric power consumption,” the following matters could be confirmed:(1) the power consumption and use frequency of the machine, (2) the time frame of the maximum power consumption, (3) the estimated maximum power consumption, and (4) the tendency of power consumption on an hourly basis. Moreover, by perceiving the work items and time, works or operating machines which maximize the power consumption during a certain time frame can be identified, which can be utilized for the load leveling, such as shifting the operation time to another time having low power consumption (peak shift) or setting priority on the machines and stop the operation of low-priority equipment (peak cut).
