Abstract
Two each of SPF pigs were feed 240, 160 and 80ppm of a mixture (SO) of sulfamonomethoxine (3%) andorimethoprim (1%) in three group for 5 days, and at day 3 they were challenged with Haemophilus parasuis. Glässer's disease was produced in two un-infected control pigs and the 80ppm group, but the 160 and 240ppm groups showed no clinical signs and no bacteria were recovered. Two SPF and two conventional pigswere reared with a pen, and treated with 240, or 160 ppm of SO for 3 weeks. The SO-treated groups showedno clinical signs, while one of two pigs of the non-SO control group showed signs of Glässer's disease. Allthe SO-treated and non-treated SPF pigs developed CF antibody at 2 weeks of pen-mating, and H. parasuiswas isolated from the nasal mucosa.
