Abstract
In a farm raising 60 sows some 60-70-day-old piglets showed severe respiratory symptoms and died in April 1995. In 3 cases autopsied severe pneumonia was observed and histopathology revealed nonpurulent interstitial pneumonia and perivascular cuffing in the brain. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus and reovirus type 2 were isolated from the brain, lung and tonsil, by inoculation onto MARC-145 and CPK or HmLu-1 cell cultures, respectively.
