Abstract

Malignant hematopoietic tumors were found in 82 pigs and 28 cattle in Niigata Prefecture during a period from 1977 to 1984. They were diagnosed as myeloid leukemias (7 pigs and 2 cattle), monocytic leukemia (1 cow), malignant histiocytosis (1 pig), and lymphocytic leukemias (73 pigs and 25 cattle) by enzyme-histochemical studies. Peroxidase, non-specific esterase and acid phosphatase stain on frozen sections were useful for the differentiation of hematopoietic neoplasmas in slaughtered animals, as well as in human beings. Lymphocytic leukemia cells of a cow showed a positive reaction to acid phosphatase stain when touch smears were used.
