Description

A newborn calf showed ataxia and mild systemic tremor. Microscopic examination disclosed perivascular cuffing throughout the white matter of the brain and proliferation of endothelial cells in the hepatic sinusoid. A high titer of neutralizing antibody against bovine viral diarrhea-mucosal disease (BVD-MD) virus was demonstrated in the serum collected in the postcolostrum stage.<BR>These findings suggested an intrauterine infection which might have been caused by BVD-MD virus and which showed mild pathologic changes.
