Abstract

Total laryngectomy and permanent tracheostomy were performed on two Shetland sheepdogs with a squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx as a radical or palliative treatment. The dogs showed clinical improvement without postoperative complications, suggesting that this operative procedure may be a viable treatment for dogs with laryngeal neoplasia The dogs died of unknown cause four months after surgery. Further investigations are needed to observe long-term complications.
