Abstract

In three dogs with primary cardiac, splenic, and subcutaneous hemangiosarcomas (HSs), hematological and serum biochemical findings were compared and discussed. All the cases showed leukocytosis, a mild or moderate increase in serum LDH activity, and an increase in serum ALP CPK activities. Anemia, which is one of the important clinical findings of canine HS, was detected only in a case of primary cardiac HS. The degree of leukocytosis and an increase in serum LDH activity correlated with the extent of metastasis and tissue destruction. The increase in CKP-MB activity in the dog with primary cardiac HS and in CPK-MM activity in the dog with primary splenic HS was considered to be due to widespread degeneration and necrosis of the right atrial myocardium and of the femoral muscle, respectively.
