説明

Current studies on loxosomatids from the Okinawa Islands are reviewed. Ten loxosomatids (six Loxosomella, two Loxomitra, and two Loxocorone) were recently described from the Okinawa Islands, the Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. These new species were found on glass slides and non-living objects in shallow water around the Okinawa Islands. They are non-commensal species, unlike most of the previously described species that live on the bodies or tubes of other animals. Observations of both commensal and non-commensal species indicate that commensal loxosomatids are less likely to be covered by and preyed upon by larger animals.
