Juveniles of Japanese top shell Turbo (Batillus) cornutus were sampled with artifical collectors in quantities enough to make clear the seasonal variation in recruitment of juveniles.<BR>The collectors were composed of 20 vinyl chloride egg-packs (pack size 24×21×2.5 mm, film thickness 180 μm) wrapped in a polyethylene net (46×80cm, 4.5mm mesh) . The collectors were more effective when the egg-packs were immersed for over 2 weeks in running sea water prior to use to allow a film of micro-organisms and diatoms to develop. The collector developed in this study seemed to be a simple and useful tool for collection of veliger larva of Japanese top shell.
