Spawning of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss was studied in the Lake Nozori, central Japan, from May 11 to June 9, 1984. Four spawning pairs of rainbow trout were observed in the creek of Nishibutasawa stream between 19 and 25 May and six single mature fish were observed in the creek and lower reaches of Nishibutasawa stream between May 19 and June 9. No trout was observed in other streams and in their creeks through the study period. It was suggested that spawning season of rainbow trout in this lake was spring and its main spawning place was Nishibutasawa stream. However, the number of spawning population was supposed to be not large. In this lake, lack of suitable spawning place, severe water level fluctuations in the lake and other environmental factors were supposed to prevent rainbow trout from their reproduction and subsequently reducing population growth.
