抄録

We evaluated the effects of recreational fishing on masu salmon and brown trout in Chitose River, Hokkaido. The fish in the river, which had been closed for 29 years, were counted two years before the opening and soon after. We found that salmon ≥ 1+ in age decreased after the river was opened, but there was no significant difference in the number of trout the same age. In the study area, numerous anglers were observed. The results suggest that opening the river after it had been closed for a long time led to a disproportionate decrease in salmon.
