Description

Reporting a rare case of solitary bronchial papilloma in a 60-year-old man, we reviewed another 24 cases reported in Japan. The patient complained of slight cough and sputum, and an abnormal chest shadow was pointed out. Chest X-ray showed a right lower atelectasis. Although it was confirmed on CT scanning, the tumorous shadow was unclear. Bronchoscopy revealed obstruction of the right lower bronchus by a light reddish smooth tumor. The pathological diagnosis was a squamous cell papilloma on the biopsied specimen, but malignancy could not be ruled out. A right middle lower lobectomy was performed. The tumor, with a diameter of 10mm, arose from the right lower bronchus. Histology revealed a benign squamous cell papilloma.
