Description
Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is one of the perioperative complications of total hip arthroplasty (THA). Despite the severity of the symptoms, cerebral dysfunction associated with cerebral fat embolism is reversible if appropriate supportive care is provided. We report our experience with a case of multiple cerebral infarction caused by fat embolism after THA, in which a favorable outcome was obtained by early diagnosis, provision of adequate respiratory care, and administering combined therapy with heparin, sivelestat sodium and edaravone.
