抄録

When soft polymers are cut by a blade such as various kinds of knives, the factors determinig cutting quality of the blade are divided into the following groups : (1) geometric factors, (2) dynamic factors, (3) metallurgic factors. In the present paper, the dynamic factor (2) is principally dealt with, employing adequate assumptions and approximation in regard to ordinary cutting of such materials. Reduction of effective edge angle and variance of cutting resistance in each direction are analyzed theoretically, since the frictional force has important significance in case of cutting. These theoretical results have been confirmed by experimental studies. And also, the cutting mechanism and cutting surface of materials with respect to edge radius of the blade, which depend upon factor (1), have been discussed by some photoplastic and other experiments, but factor (3) is not discussed here.
