Description

In the previous report, it is found that the precision cutting of the quenched steel (S 55 C, HRC 57) can be done, by using the vibrating cemented carbide tool or diamond tool. In order to find out how hard a material can be subjected to precision cutting by means of this vibration cutting by giving the pulsating cutting force a short cycle, this study is carried out. In this report, the results obtained by firstly carrying out the precision cutting of high speed tool steel SKH 2 (HRC 64), SKH 3 (HRC 64.5) and SKH 4 A (HRC 65) are discussed. Cutting conditions for face cutting; longitudinally vibrated tool (frequency 21. 7 kHz, amplitude 15 μm) is used, cutting speed 30 m/min, feed O.05-0.12 mm/rev, cutting depth O.01-0.06 mm, the mixture of machine oil and spindle oil, cemented carbide tool K 03, K 10. Main cutting conditions for shaping: twist vibrating tool (frequency 29 kHz, amplitude 8 μm) is used, average cutting speed 8 m/min. Cutting resistance, surface roughness, the type of chip, lT (=v/f, v; cutting speed, f; frequency) pattern on the machined surface, the degree of the damage given to the cutting tool and accuracy etc., are examined. By this study, it is proved that the high speed tool steel can be precisely machined with carbide tool removing the flow type chip by means of vibration cutting.
