Anoxia was found to increase the number of spontaneous discharges in 19 units of 34 cochlear single units tested. The remaining 15 neurons displayed no increase during anoxia (Fig. 2, 3).<BR>Neurons showing high frequency spontaneous discharges (over 100 sp/sec) during normal respiration displayed a tendency toward increase discharges during anoxia. Those neurons with lower frequency spontaneous discharges (under 99 sp/sec) tended to show fewer increase.<BR>PaO2 and blood pressure were surveyed during anoxial (Fig. 4, 5).
