Description

The present study was designed to examine the effect of bismuth subnitrate (BSN) on the ototoxicity of Cis-diaminedichloro platinum (CDDP), using normal golden hamster. BSN was poured into the stomach during ten days. On the 6th day-10th day, CDDP was injected intraperitoneally at 3mg/kg/day. After observation with SEM, the remaining of outer hair cells were counted from apical turn to basal turn, and cytocochleograms were made. In the investigation of the cytocochleograms, the rate of outer hair cells remaing was higher in the BSN-given group than in the BSN-ungiven group. Metallothionein (MT) increased in the kidney, the liver and the cochlea, when we were given BSN to the hamster. It was considered that MT decreased the toxicity of CDDP.
