Description

Before the Kanto Earthquake of 1923 there were four municipal apartment houses in Yokohama. This paper discusses on the process and outline of Nakamuracho First Apartment House built as first municipal apartment house in Yokohama. Conclusion as follows ; 1) The project of municipal apartment house has already started since August 1919. 2) The constraction of Nakamuracho First Apartment House, which was first municipal apartment house in Yokohama, started in December 1920 and finished at the beginning of May 1921. 3) It was slightly damaged by the Kanto Earthquake of 1923, but it was used as a municipal apartment house after then. After the World War II, it was used as a home for mothers and children, and destroyded because of superannuation in 1968. 4) It was build of reinforced concrete block, and then it is very early fireproof municipal apartment house in Japan.
