Description
The aim of this paper is to study the characteristics of land use in Spanish cities. We firstly reconstructed city maps, the nanalyzed and compared with respect to the ratio of land use area. The results show the followings; i) land use patterns inhistorical area of Spanish cites are dominated by economic uses, ii) in Barcelona and Madrid, a special patten of land use are observed reflecting their political positions, iii) at the turn of the 20th century, central urban areas were mainly used for economic purpose in all cities.
