Abstract
During the five years from Jan.1981 to Dec. 1985, a total of 529 cases with spoadic acute viral hepatitis were admitted to our hospital and four other hospital in Chikugo district, Fukuoka prefecture.<BR>They consisted of 260 cases (49.1%) with type A, 112 cases (21.2%) with type B and 157 cases (29.7%) with type nonA nonB. Two hundred and six cases (79.2%) of type A occurred from Feb. to May, with a highest incidence in March. Case control study revealed this seasonal occurrence of type A hepatitis is closely related with raw oyster intake. Experimentally, an evidence was provided that hepatitis A virus is concentrated in coreculina leana when incubated togetherin vitro. These results suggests that raw oystar intake is responsible for the seasonal deviation in the occurrence of type A hepatitis.
