Abstract
Many types of hepatic disorder following a surgical operation under general anesthesia had been remarked. Although patients had no liver dysfunction before surgery, several disorders were noticed postoperatively as follows: hepatobiliary complications due to surgical procedure, benign postoperative cholestasis, serum hepatitis, so-called halothane hepatitis, and unexplained hepatic disorders. As for the last, elevation of serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase was discussed recently, and we have reported one type of them. "Transient Postoperative Hepatic Disorder" appeared in two or three weeks postoperatively. Thirty-five cases of this disorder were presented in this paper. The majority were in the 30- and 40-year-old group regardless of sex, and the disorder occured frequently after surgery of upper abdomen (gastrectomy, cholecystectomy, etc).<BR>Monocyte count of peripheral blood increased in the 3rd week postoperatively. Postoperative fluctuation of small lymphocyte count of this group was different to that of the control group (GPT stable). Eosinophilia appeared frequently in the 2nd or 3rd week following the surgery. Leucocyte migration inhibition test for halothane and trifluoro-acetic acid was made for some cases, however, clear cut result was not obtained.
