Description

Serum cryoglobulins levels were measured in 127 patients with various liver diseases and 30 healthy individuals. Serum contents of cryoglobulins in normal controls were less than 0.6mg/dl and then those more than 1 mg/dl in sera were defined to be hypercryoglobulinemia.
Hypercryoglobulinemia were detected in the sera from 3 of 22 patients with acute hepatitis (14%), 9 of 32 chronic hepatitis (28%), 14 of 24 liver cirrhosis (61%), 6 of 7 P.B.C. (86%), and 1 of 6 asymptomatic carrier (17%).
Cryoprecipitates consisted of mixed cryoimmunoglobulin (1gM, 1gG and/or 1gA) and also contained HBs·Ag and/or HBs·Ab.
It was noted that HBs·Ag was detected in their cryoprecipitates in 2 out of 20 HBs·Ag negative patlents.
Hypercryoglobulinemia was frequently encountered in the patients with serum sicknesS like syndrome, such as arthralgia, purpura, rash and nephropathy.
Hypercryoglobulinemia was observed in the patients with hyperglobulinemia, decreased hepatic clearance of 198Au colloid or low levels of serum complements.
