Description

Cellular immunity of patients with hepatocellular carclnoma was investigated by means peripheral blood lymphocyte, lymphocyte transformation after stimulation with PHA and E- formation of lymphocytes with sheep red blood cells.
The results obtained were as follows.
1) In patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, peripheral blood lymphocyte count depressed in the end stage of the diseases, compared with in the initial stage. ln patients living for long time, peripheral blood lymphocytes were not depressed.
2) In patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, the percentages of PHA-lymphocyte tra formation and E-rosette formation were more depressed, compared with healthy controls. Patie with hepatocellular carcinoma in which low percentages of PHA-lymphocyte transformation w found, often had normal percentages of E-rosette formation. This tendency was disappered patients who had long lives after chemotherapy.
3) The cases living for a long time tended to have higher percentages of peripheral bl lymphocyte count, PHA-lymphocyte transformation, E-rosette formation, compared with the ca living for a few months.
4) Peripheral blood lymphocyte counts well reflected the severity of symptomes hepatocellular carcinoma. The percentages of PHA-lymphocyte transformation and E-rose formation also well reflected the severity of symptomes.
