Description

To study of the risk of the hepatitis B virus infection from HBsAg carriers to their families, their spouses and children of HBsAg carriers with HBeAg or anti-HBe were examined for HBsAg and anti-HBs. In the 25 wives of the 25 HBsAg carriers with HBeAg, the 23 cases of them had anti-HBs(92.0%). In the 23 wives of the 23 HBsAg carriers with anti-HBe, only 5 cases of them had anti-HBs(21.7%). There is a great difference between wives of HBeAg and anti-HBe positive index cases(p<0.01). In the husbands of HBeAg or anti-HBe positive females, there was the same tendency. It is suspected that the spouses of HBsAg carriers with HBeAg will be highly and inapparently infected with the hepatitis B virus from them, and partly suffr from acute hepatitis B.<BR>In the 19 children of the 6 HBsAg carrier mothers with HBeAg, the 18 cases of them were HBsAg carriers(94.7%). In the 15 children of the 7 HBsAg carrier mothers with anti-HBe, the 5 cases of them were HBsAg carriers, and all of them were older than l0 years old, but the other 10 cases under 10 years old had nither HBsAg nor anti-HBs. If HBsAg carrier mother is HBeAg positive at delivery, her baby will be infected with the hepatitis B virus and develop to be HBsAg carrier.
