A cream containing 1% kojic acid and 0.1% licorice extract was used for 25 patients with hyperpigmentation. Most of cases were solar lentigo and chloasma. The cream was applied to both sides of the face twice a day. The skin color was measured before and after application of the cream.<BR>The final improvement rate was 20/22 in solar lentigo, 8/8 in chloasma. No side effect was found at all. The utility rate, estimated from final improvement rate and the safety, was 20/22 in solar lentigo and 8/8 in chloasma. The average rate of the skin color change of the extremely useful cases was the highest of all cases. These results suggested that the cream was effective, safe and useful for hyperpigmentation.
