Description

Effectiveness of 0.064% betamethasone 17, 21-dipropionate ointment and cream (RDDP) for eczematous dermatitis was investigated focusing on the rate of improvement for each cutaneous manifestation.<BR>Sixty-three cases with various forms of eczematous dermatitis were divided into two groups: 34 cases were treated with a topical application of RDDP in combination with oral intake of terfenadine (group A), and 29 cases were treated with RDDP only (group B). These treatments were continued for up to 14 days. Only itching improved more rapidly in the cases of group A than in those of group B; the other cutaneous manifestations including erythema, papule, scale, lichenification, and scratch marks showed no difference in the rate of improvement between the two groups. Finally, 33 cases of group A (97.0%) and 28 cases of group B (96.5%) showed the of of RDDP as they were graded “fairy improved” or better. Side effects appeared in four cases (6.3%), but all were minor. These results indicate that RDDP has an outstanding therapeutic effect on eczematous dermatitis.
