Description
Bathing emulsion Atskin® containing oil, humectants, dipotassium glycyrrhetinate, and rice germ oil was used by 31 patients with mild to severe atopic dermatitis for one month. Its effects were evaluated after one month of use.The global improvement rate was 77.4% and the utility rate for patients whose assessment was “slightly to very useful” was 77.4%. When asked by a questionnaire, 9 of 12 (75%) patients with mild atopic dermatitis answered that dry skin was improved and 9 of 14 (64.2%) patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis gave a similar answer. When the moisture content of the stratum corneum was measured in 22 patients with mild atopic dermatitis and 12 healthy volunteers at various time intervals after bathing, it was found that Atskin® tended to help retain more moisture than a bath without Atskin®.The moisture content of the stratum corneum was again significantly higher in the healthy volunteers (p<0.05). Based on the results presented, it may be concluded that Atskin® is of high utility for both healthy persons and patients with mild atopic dermatitis.
