Abstract
Pandel ointment, the first Japanese product of corticosteroid preparation for topical use, contains 0.1% hydrocortisone 17-butyrate 21-propionate. In order to evaluate the utility of the ointment for various types of eczema/dermatitis, an open study was carried out with participation of seven dermatological facilities in the Tohoku area of Japan. The material included 36 cases of contact dermatitis, 38 of atopic dermatitis, 17 of seborrheic dermatitis, 16 of lichen Vidal, 23 of handeczema, 36 of acute eczema, 24 of chronic eczema and 9 of other dermatoses, a total of197 cases. The utility rate in each type of eczema/dermatitis, the ratio of cases judged as very useful or useful to all cases, was 100%, 87%, 82%, 81%, 74%, 88% and 100%, respectively. The mean utility rate for whole cases was as high as 87%. This high utility rate should indicate the high degree of utility of Pandel ointment for various types of eczema/dermatitis.
