Abstract
An ovary-conserving operation was conducted on a patient with metachronous bilateral teratomas of the ovary. Postoperatively, serum levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone and estradiol were all within normal limits, and gonadotropin response to gonadotropin-releasing hormone was normal. Sexual maturation was observed and menarche occurred after a gradual increase in the level of serum estradiol. Some ovarian tissue was apparently likely to be left intact at the time of operation, which was supported by histological examination of the extirpated tumors. Based on this experience, we conclude that an ovary-conserving operation is a useful method for preserving ovarian function in patients with benign teratomas of the ovary.
