Description

The tendinous intersection of M. rectus abdominis from human adults (26 sides), human new born (1 side), human fetus (3 sides), monkey adults (11 sides) and monkey new horns (3 sides) were examined and were compared with each other.
1. The connective tissues composed the tendinous intersection by the adult monkey transverse the muscle belly from anterior to posterior in all cases. By the other subjects examined, the tendinous intersection shows nearer view to those of adult monkey in order of monkey new born, human fetus, human new born and human adult. So that, it is considered that the tendinous intersections by human adult are orginally seen only on the surface of muscle.
2. The tendinous intersection is generally constituted from the dense connective tissue, but it contains abundant adipose tissue when it cross the muscle belly in human adults.
3. In the case of muscles of which the tendinous intersection does not reach to the opposite surface of muscle, the muscle fibers in the deep layer run longitudinally and connect between the muscle segments, and those of M. rectus abdominis consist of long and short muscle fibers.
4. On the adult of man and monkey, the difference of the tendinous intersection in both is related to the difference of the respective function of this muscle in both animals.
5. By the fetus and new born in both animals, the tendinous intersection is accompanied with large blood vessels in the connective tissue. Therefore, it is considered that the origin of tendinous intersection is caused by the invation of blood vessels accompanying connective tissue into muscle.
