Using 41 autopsy cases of alcoholism, pancreas, liver, kidney and heart were studied histopathologically. Furthermore, using 50 rats drinked 20 % alcohol duaring 10 weeks (8 rats), 50 weeks (18 rats), and the most longest group (21 rats) drinked untill death, were studied with the same organs and the following conclusion were obtained.
1) Cirrhoric liver was found 16 cases (39.0%) of the alcoholism 41 cases and all of nothing in the no-alcoholic 40 cases.
2) Cause of death in alcoholism was found 58.5% in disease of the digestive organs. (no-alcoholism was found 10%.)
3) Cause of death in alcoholism was found 44% in the malignant tumor. (no-alcoholism was found 17.5%.)
4) Histopathological alcoholic pancreas was found the vacuole formation of the protoplasm and nucleus.
5) In the liver of alcoholism, it was found the remarkable fatty degeneration and the fibrous hyperplasia as compared with no-alcoholism, but the kidney and heart of the alcoholism was not found the remarkable changes.
6) In the pancreas of the alcoholic rats, the protoplasm and nucleus of acinous cells was found the degeneration changes (vacuole formation, atrophy, and collapse, ) . Furthermore, the collapse of acinous-structure was found here and there as sporadic changes, and as fainary changes it was found that the pancreas got in to the atrophic degeneration. Those tindings gradually become severe tollowing an increase in the quantity of alchohol intakt.
7) In the liver of alcoholic rats, was found the dissociation of the hepatic cell cord and the slight fatty degeneration, but coud not found the fibrous hyperplasia.
8) In the kidney of 10 alcoholic rats (long alcoholic group 3 cases 17%, limitid long alcoholic group 7 cases 33.3%), was found the calcification and had no-changes in the heart.
In the present autopsy investigation, it was found that the pancreas and liver of alcoholism had differrent many changes from those of no-alcoholism in statistical and histopatho-logical investigation. In the experimental results, it was found that the alcohol affected hystotoxically for the cells of pancreas especially. So I had come to the conclusion that the alcohol acted upon especially the pancreas as metabolic impediment.
