Description
Growing pattern in size of transplanted solid tumor (Ehrlich ascites tumor) was the indicator of radiation effect combined with pyrimidine analogues in this experiment.
Intra-peritoneal injection of deoxybromouridine (BUdR) in the doses of 10 mol, 1 cc, or of 5-furuolouracil (FU) of 10 mol, 0.2 cc proved the growth inhibitory action on the tumor.
Radiation effect was enhanced by BUdR or FU. From the results of the experiment based on the difference of effectiveness owing to the time interval of administration of radiation and the drugs, or vice versa, it was likely that BUdR played the role by being incorporated into DNA before irradiation or by increased salvage into DNA after irradiation.
FU on the other hand, seemed to inhibit the recovery process, which was to take place between the time of irradiation and appearance of the radiation injury.
