A 75-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of bedsores. On laboratory findings, serious anemia was revealed. The gastroendoscopic findings showed a giant mass in the stomach. Although the pathological diagnosis of biopsy was negative, proximal gastrectomy was carried out under the diagnosis of gastric cancer. Histopathological and histochemical studies revealed a malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the stomach. On the postoperative 3rd month, recurrence and lymph node metastases occured. Despite chemotherapy with TS-1 at a dose of 100mg/day, he died. Gastric MFH is extremely rare, and to our knowledge, there have been only 12 cases including our case. These reports show that this tumor has a poor prognosis.
