Abstract

A 29-year-old man was admitted to the hospital for examination of an incidentally found retroperitoneal tumor. The solid tumor was 2.0 cm in diameter and the tumor margin was clear. Abdominal Doppler US showed that the tumor was rich in vascularity, and the tumor content was partially enhanced by gradient-CT. The possibility of malignancy was not ruled out and then the tumor was removed. The tumor was in contact with the IVC and right renal vein and connected to a white bundle seemed like nerves. Histologically, the tumor was benign Schwannoma.<br>Schwannoma shows a variety of appearances on imaging such as US, CT or MRI according to the hisitological degenerative degree. In the case of a small retroperitoneal tumor, it is not easy to obtain biopsy samples for diagnosis due to several huge vessels and organs adjacent to the tumor. We report a case of a retroperitoneal benign Schwannoma that was not diagnosed preoperatively.
