Abstract

A 36-year-old woman pregnant with twins was admitted to another hospital because of lower abdominal pain. She had had a uterine myomectomy at the age of 35. After admission, she was diagnosed with an intestinal perforation with ileus at the 25th week of gestation, and an emergency operation was performed by gastrointestinal surgeons and gynecologists.<BR>In the operation, we could not observe the abdominal cavity sufficiently to perform the operation because of the large pregnant uterus. In addition, because the gynecologists assessed that the continuance of pregnancy would be difficult, a caesarean section was performed first. The twins were treated by two teams of pediatricians. The ileum was strangulated by adhesion, was necrotic and perforated with the formation of an abdominal abscess. Finally, we reseceted about 100 cm of the ileum. The postoperative course of the mother and two children were uneventful. In our case, digestive surgeons and obstetrics and two teams of pediatricians cooperated closely, and we could rescue them.
