Description

We experienced a case of huge gastric inflammatory fibroid polyp presented with severe anemia due to hemorrhage which subsequently demanded surgical treatment. A 64-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of epigastralgia and tarry stool. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a huge gastric submucosal tumor, about 7cm in diameter, with superficial erosion and hemorrhage. With a suspicion of gastric lipoma by an abdominal ultrasound, an endoscopic ultrasound and a CT scan, we tried endoscopic treatments to control the hemorrhage. But we failed to stop the bleeding, and his anemia rapidly wersened after admission. So we gave up conservative therapy and performed a distal gas-trectomy on 12th day after admission. The resected specimen revealed a 7×5×2cm submucosal tumor of the gastric body. Histopathological examination showed granulomatous lesion mingled with numerous eosinophils. The tumor was diagnosed as gastric inflammatory fibroid polyp.
