Abstract

A 50-year-old woman complaining of epigastric pain was admitted to a local hospital. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy demonstrated a type 0-IIc tumor of the lesser curvature in the middle third of the stomach that was determined to be signet ring cell carcinoma. She was referred to our hospital, and a total gastrectomy with D1 + lymph node dissection was performed for the T1bN1M0 Stage IB gastric cancer. Histopathological examination demonstrated a poorly-differentiated adenocarcinoma confined to the mucosa with metastases to seven lymph nodes (pN3a 7/51), including group 2 lymph node metastasis. She has been recurrence-free as of 17 months after the operation. This case is very rare, and so we report this mucosal gastric cancer with pN3a lymph node metastasis.
