Description
A 46-year-old woman was referred to our department for incidentally-discovered left lung mass during close evaluation of right breast cancer. Aortography showed an aberrant artery arising from the descending aorta to the basal segment of the left lower lobe. Pulmonary arteriography revealed absence of basal segmental branches of the left pulmonary artery. Thus, right breast cancer and anomalous systemic arterial supply to the left basal segment of the lung were diagnosed and treated by surgery simultaneously, because her general physical condition was good. We performed partial resection of the right breast in supine position, followed by left video-thoracoscopy in right lateral position. Dilated vessels were demonstrated on the surface of the left basal segment of the lung. The aberrant artery was dissected and transected by an endoscopic stapling device, and then left lower lobectomy was carried out. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged on the hospital day 7. She received 50Gy of irradiation to the residual right breast. She has been free from recurrent disease 18 months after the surgery.
