Abstract

A 73-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital due to a painful abdominal tumor at the right lower abdomen. A giant tumor was detected at the ileocolic region by computed tomography (CT) scan. It was connected to an abscess of the right lower abdominal wall. It was diagnosed as mucinous adenocarcinoma by core needle biopsy and suspected to have originated from the cecum or right ovarium. The laparotomy cytology was negative. There were no liver metastasis or peritoneal dissemination. We performed a right colectomy and resected the abdominal abscess together with a partial resection of the abdominal wall. Because the tumor infiltrated to several nearby organs, it was resected together with the right ovarium and pertial segment of the uterus, urinary bladder and the sigmoid colon. It was diagnosed as mucinous adenocarcinoma of the cecum based on the pathological findings.<BR>We report a case of giant cecum cancer with abdominal wall abscess and multi-organ invasion and reviewed the cases in Japan.
