Abstract

A 37-year-old man who had been in hospital with schizophrenia ingested an acidic cleaner for suicide when going out, and was admitted to previous hospital for treatment of pneumonia with antibiotics and ventilator. Since two months after admission, he became to have recurrent bouts of vomiting after oral ingestion, and corrosive pyloric stricture was suspected. He was referred to our department for further examination and surgical treatment. Fluoroscopy guided gastroscopy revealed pyloric stricture, and a gastroscope could not go through the stricture. He was given a diagnosis of corrosive pyloric stricture due to the acidic cleaner, and gastro-jejunostomy with gastric exclusion was performed because the stricture was extensive and adhesion with the pancreas was suspected. Delayed cicatricial stricture after corrosive liquid ingestion sometimes requires surgical treatment.
