Description

A 47-year-old woman who visited a hospital because of abdominal pain developed on the next day after ingestion of tangle was transferred to our hospital because conservative therapy was unsuccessful. After admission to our hospital, she underwent laparotomy. We saw that the jejunum, 180cm distal to the Treitz ligament, included firm contents, causing small bowel obstruction. It was a lump of non-digested tangle. After removal of the contents, we sutured the jejunal wound without jejunectomy. No recurrence of small bowel obstruction has occurred after the operation. Although small bowel obstruction induced by foods is often encountered at the bedside, such obstruction as is induced by dietary tangle is peculiar to Japan and comparatively rare. This paper presents our experience with a case of small bowel obstruction induced by tangle, with precise bibliographic consideration.
