Sixteen cases of Whitehead's anus that had been treated in our hospital from December 1992 to October 1999 were investigated. Looking closely into these cases, the male-to-female ratio was 14: 2, and the mean age was 64.4 years-old ; maximum anal resting pressure was 60.8 cmH2O, but maximum squeezing pres-sure was within the normal range. The mean follow-up interval was 10.6 years; the affected interval was 26.6 years. Ligation and excision with the sliding skin graft method was performed in 22 lesions, ligation and excision in ten, a sliding skin graft in three, and rubber band ligation in six. Preoperatively, bleeding, mucosal prolapse, pain, and seepage were improved after surgery, but stool incontinence was not.
